Stepped out onto the back porch with my girlfriend facing due north. Noticed what looked like an orange flare to our right, 45 degrees just above the horizon. It seemed to drift due west and slightly lost altitude until it was almost due north of us approximately 5oo' away and 500' up. I felt it knew we were observing it and it was going to come toward us. I said "in the name of Jesus do not come here". About 2 seconds later it turned due north and at a slight angle headed away from us. We watched it for about 10 seconds till we could no longer see it. It had been raining a lot that day and their was still heavy cloud cover. It had a slight pulse to it but I'm not sure if it was my eyes trying to bring it into better focus or if it was the object. When it was moving w/b it appeared to be drifting but I believe it was moving quicker than I realized. The total time of observation was less than 3 minutes. I am a police officer.
