I was driving home in my car. There is no artificial lighting on my street so what made me notice the object was the bright light. It appeared to be a shooting star type object but also looked like it was on fire. However it was too low to be a shooting star. I stopped the car and watched it cross my horizon for a second or 2. The object the stopped directly above and in front of me. After a split second it turned in the direction facing away from me and shot off into the darkness. There was no cloud cover and it just seemed to disappear into the darkness.
