I was driving on Patterson Rd. approaching Hwy 29 in the car with my 3 children who are ages 15, 13 and 11. We saw large orange-reddish lights least 8-10 in quantity that extended out to cover a length as long as a football field. They appeared to have a shape that resembled a triangle and they were not moving from the spot above the intersection of Plantation and Hwy 29. We seemed to drive up under the object which was above the tree line but not in the clouds since the sky was very clear at the time. At Chevron, 1850 Lawrenceville Highway, Lawrenceville, GA 30044 we turned right on Hwy 29 towards Sugarloaf Parkway and remained "under" the object until we reach the Autozone which is at Advance Auto Parts, 1614 Lawrenceville Highway, Lawrenceville, GA 30044-4606 which is .5miles in distance. We stopped at red light and exchanged a conversation with witnesses in other vehicles who had observed the same thing and we asked each other what we thought it was. The traffic heading down Hwy 29 in the opposite direction from our car normally travels at speeds of 55-60mph but it was noticeable slower as if they were slowing to observe the effect they were approaching. The time was about 9:35pm since were we heading to church for New Year's Eve observance and skies were clear.
