Night sighting Multi-colored lights in different locations of craft visible/evident when craft turned around or seemed to be turning around, stationary, hovering for long duration. Worried if I left the back yard where I was watching from to get camera, on return object would be gone. Object stayed hovering less than 1000 ft, turning on its axis lights exhibit a pattern as I watched for what seemed like a ridiculously long time for a hovering craft. white, red, green, then after craft appears to turn (as lights moved left to right and then right to left as it turned), 3 red lights could be seen. Then all lights go out except for a "forward" white light and only name it "forward" because the vehicle then moved in the direction the light was pointing toward. As it moved it was much closer to me about 500 feet away but still I could not make out any shape other than that suggested by the position of the lights on vehicle. No top light visible, nor bottom lights; these lights all appeared to be perimeter as if around the edges of something. After exhibiting pattern of blinking which is too hard to describe, but it was a repeated pattern, as if signalling to an onlooker, as if it was visually reporting what it was seeing as it hovered Completely silent when it moved from a distance closer to me and houses around me. No sound whatsoever as if object had no engine at all. Distinct sighting. Easy to see object lights. Clear skies, no fog, no traffic or neighborhood noise, residential area, no moon, perfect evening, no temperature inversion, stars coming out, approx. sighting started at 10.30 pm and lasted to 11.15 because when it moved I moved to front yard and continued watching to see where it would go and was worried about O'hare traffic. Then it stopped over cornfield about 1000 feet away and repeated same behavior; lights of different colors, then the three red lights were visible as vehicle turned, then all lights went out except for forward light and object moved toward the East and Randall Road. I do not know why any normal vehicle would exhibit lights behavior in this manner but the existence of a blinking light indicates it must be a type of drone or other vehicle with propulsion that makes absolutely NO sound or wind wake noise. When vehicle moved to the cornfield from where I first saw it, it did so extremely fast and came to an immediate stop without oscillation upon stopping; it simply moved from point a to point b at a speed I have to guess at over 100 mph. When object stopped it stopped so suddenly I have a hard time believing anyone on the craft would not have suffered g forces so I am still inclined to think drone but big and not aircraft shaped; no tail or wings or tail lights or wing tip lights at all. Craft hovered perfectly stationary except for if it was, turning on central axis whereupon different lights became visible. No single light was bright enough to obscure other lights, and the pattern of blinking or changing colors was precise. Because this object made no sound whatsoever I am concerned. If it was a police vehicle then police have tech I am not aware of. Where my house is located, O'hare traffic descends to altitude above our houses, on approach from North, to then turn east to O'Hare. Traffic does NOT come from the South. I know traffic descends above our houses because we see planes dropping altitude and hear engines (braking) reducing power. All the commercial traffic is moving then after coming from the north, moving west to east on approach to Ohare. Much higher traffic is seen routinely 20k having left Ohare and traveling west. Huntley is a 40 minute drive from Ohare via i-90 (at 4am Sunday for instance) Sighteee background: GE Aviation United Airlines Motorola (Radio Infrastructure) Woodward/MPC Aviation Shure Audio Products Brother in USAF Military Historian Day job: technical writer, industrial proucts
