I was standing outside my home smoking a cigarette when a bright light in the sky to the west caught my attention. it was brighter than any star i could see (it's a semi-rural area and not much light pollution). it was changing colors rapidly: red, blue, yellow, green, white, orange. there was no discernible pattern. no other stars in that area of the sky were doing the same. at first i thought it was a plane, but there was a plane flying over at the time and didn't have the same look. i watched it for a couple more minutes to see if it would move as the plane did, and it didn't. wanting another witness, i called to my mother and got her out. she agreed that it didn't look like a plane, saw the same change in colors. as we watched, with naked eyes and binoculars, it seemed to be moving about in different directions very slowly. we could judge this by the trees and power-lines in the foreground. at times we had to walk to the end of our driveway to view it, only to have to return to the house to see it again when it moved in another direction. after about 15 minutes of total viewing time it moved out of sight, still to the west. as an avid sky-watcher, i've seen countless satellites, the iss, meteors, etc pass over and none of them have looked or behaved like this.
