Unexplaned huge red/orange ball over Sandy, UT, traveling horizontally and suddenly dropping out of sight.As my wife took our 2 dogs out side at approximately 22:20 hours to potty, she noticed a red/orange ball making no sound traveling across the valley going north approximately the same altitude a small plane would be flying 1 to 2 thousand feet. She hurriedly came into the house to alert me. I immediately grabbed the binoculars and went out to the deck and viewed the object which was about 11 miles away. It was going very slow and was emitting a red and orange glow within this ball. It appeared to be huge based on the distance from our view. The orange glow seemed to be contained within the ball and there seemed to be some kind of a curved line on the outside going through the center of the ball separating the red from the orange. There were no other distinct features outside of the ball that could be identified. As I watched the ball going north on a horizontal line it suddenly stopped for approximately 5 seconds and then dropped straight down. I fol! lowed the ball dropping until the trees obstructed my view. The bright red/orange form did not change nor did it leave a heat trail upon its decent. WOW!
