Sighted orange flickering glow that appeared to be some type of craft, it changed direction and ultimately disappeared.At approximately 10:05 PM on Saturday, July 6th 2013, I witnessed an orange glow northeast of my position, which was in my back yard. I had been tending a small bonfire sitting in a lawn chair. I was looking at stars with no visual aid, and saw a satellite heading for the north pole from the southeast. A reflection in my eyeglasses caused me to turn to my left, where I saw an approaching orange, flame-like glow in the northeast sky at about 45 degrees. The object was not making any sound, and I expected it to eventually pass overhead. I actually thought that it might be a hot air balloon, due to the glow and the altitude. As it continued to approach I noticed that the light had momentarily dimmed, and it was suddenly traveling to the east at a rate of speed that would be greater than a hot air balloon. (surface wind speeds were not above 5MPH at the time). The light flickered a bit, reduced in size steadily as it travelled away from my position, and ultimately disappeared. I do not think the time that elapsed from the start to the end of the sighting was more than three or four minutes. I was not frightened by this sighting and I continued to scan the skies for satellites and aircraft.About twenty minutes later, I witnessed the same exact thing once again. I was so intent upon making out a shape that I did not run into my house for my camera or binoculars. Because of the time between sightings, I wondered if it was a sightseeing aircraft from the July Fireworks event being held at the Hartness Airport in Springfield. I looked up the event on its sponsor web site and noted that a group with small experimental aircraft had been offering rides to youngsters that day, but not beyond 4 PM.This sighting took place in one of the villages that comprise the town of Rockingham, Vermont.
