I was standing on the street in front of my house watching fireworks on July 4. From my house, fireworks can usually be observed from any direction at any given time. At one point, I turned facing north to watch some fireworks when I noticed a red-orange orb shaped object fairly low in the horizon. It was lower than the fireworks that were being set off in that direction. The object was somewhat large and was moving quickly from the north/northwest to southeast. I was able to observe the object for about 5 seconds or so before I lost sight of it behind houses and trees. During the time I observed the object, it did not change color or direction. It maintained a steady line of direction and speed.At first I thought the object might have been a Chinese lantern or similar device, but there was no wind or breeze and the object did not give the appearance that it was floating. Then I thought it possibly might have been the exhaust from a jet aircraft, but I did not see any flashing navigation lights on the object and it made no sound. Even though there were fireworks going off in the area, there was usually several seconds or more between each display. At this point, I was not sure what I was seeing. I know that it was not part of any fireworks display and it did not seem like any aircraft that I am familiar with in this area, so I just considered it to be something odd.I did not really think anything more about this until a couple of days ago when I was looking through the MUFON database for the latest sightings and read about an event in Hampstead, MD, posted July 19, 2014, that occurred at about the same time and had a similar description. I believe that the object that I saw is the same as the one in the Hampstead report. Hampstead, MD is approximately 20 miles northeast of where I live.
