9 or 10 red/ orange lights moving in impossible trajectories.While getting off the freeway heading towards the capitol building, my boyfriend and I noticed 9 or 10 orange/red circles of light floating in the sky to the left of the capitol dome. The balls hovered without any sound but moved smoothly in several different formations. At first, they were in no particular order, but seemed to rotate and move as one in a fluid fashion, some moving faster than others. Then they paired up, one out of the two descended while the other ascended. Then they reversed direction. The final formation I saw were the pairs moving diagonally, but with the set of two still aligned in a straight line.The lights went behind some trees and when we searched for them again we didn't see them. After about 10 minutes of driving around I saw a single light next to the dome of the Capitol building. We passed another tree and then it had disappeared again.Both of us have never seen any sort of aircraft move so fluidly and silently. The lights were much larger then any plane lights and moved in an impossible pattern. I have no idea what it could have been but it was certainly "unidentified".
