Was outside on the driveway at close to 10pm in Kennesaw GA. As amateur astronomer I habitually look up to check the visible constellations and noticed the red box-like pattern traveling from the northeast from beta cassiopeia going southwest. The waxing gibbous moon provided ample night vision. Few clouds obscured the sky. No other flying objects visible. No contrail visible. No sound heard. The lights seemed to brighten and dim irregularly. The lights did NOT blink like anti collision lights. None of the lights blinked at all. In both the box-like pattern and triangular pattern there were red lights. There were no green lights or white lights.My initial thought was an aircraft traversing toward Atlanta AP or McCollum Field. But there was no anti-collision light pattern and then all lights went dark when it was straight overhead. I waited a few moments for it to reappear. It did not reappear. From my aspect, the speed at which the object traveled exceeded 300 kts/hr. I thought maybe it was a bolide, but the local news made no mention of local sightings and there was no visible fireball trail. I then thought maybe it was that comet that's suppose to pass by this weekend, but my readings indicate that object is too small for the naked eye.If it was an airplane I would have heard something and saw the anti-collison lights. It sure wasn't a meteor.
