I was standing in the parking lot of the Williston, North Dakota City Library around 1:30 a.m. Looking out to the SW side of Williston, ND., I observed 4 exact size bright orange/amber lights ascending from out of the west/southwest in a graduated flight pattern/trajectory. The first of two orange lights appeared to have an ascending pattern of about 60 degrees flying southeast at slower speeds for about a half mile, then it came to a dead stop in mid air, then the light ascended south at a much higher elevation and vanished within seconds. I couldn't believe my eyes and was about to brush it off. However, I looked back in the direction where the light first appeared and there was another(2nd)light following the same flight pattern. Watching intensely, the same exact thing took place with this light as with the first light. The speed at which these lights ascended higher and vanishing within seconds is indescribable. Even more astonished, I looked back in the direction from where these first two lights came from and there where 2 more of these bright orange/amber lights( one following the other at a very close range)in the same flight pattern as the first two. The thing that was different with these two lights is that they came to a stop in almost the same spot( if you will ) as the first two lights, came to a dead stop, side-by-side, then ascended together in the same trajectory/pattern as the first two lights and vanished w/n seconds. After these events I was trying to think of any airfield in the vicinity of these lights, which none are known of. And I thought possibly it was military aircraft. However after investigating what type of aircraft have orange/amber lights (only!), come to find out, there are none. These were all very large bright solid orange/amber lights. They were not a beacon nor did any of them have a blinking sequence.
