Traveling east om highway 30 between Marshalltown and Legrand with my wife. We saw one bright star on our left low to the horizon and no other stars. It appeared to be a red to orange color. Looking to the right side of the highway, higher in the sky we both noticed three very bright stars and no other stars. There were two stars above one star. Two stars were next to each other and a third star was lined up exactly below the star on the left. Total of three bright stars. All the stars were an equal distance apart from each other. We didn't see any other stars or lights in the sky. About ten to fifteen seconds later, the star on the bottom left started to rise straight up towards the star above it. It changed color from bright white to orange/red. Before it reached the star above, it faded away and disappeared. About ten seconds later the other two stars went straight up together and changed color to orange/red. they faded away while they were moving exactly liked the bottom star had. We turned onto the exit ramp into Le Grand. when we stopped at the bottom of the ramp we didn't see any other lights, but did see all of the stars including the little dipper. And at least two sets of blinking lights that appeared to be airplane lights. One a little lower then the three bright lights traveling from south to north. The second plane was at a higher altitude traveling from south east to northwest. My wife was scared and worried about this and I was a little upset because we had never seen anything like this before.
