Family driving home on interstate 70 east when my youngest sonspotted a cluster of about 6-8 red lights in the sky south of 70. We exited 70 on exit 112, making a left and pulling into the shopping center parking lot to observe and take pictures. By the time we found a parking spot behind the shopping center several of the lights had disappeared. They appeared to be ascending slowly into the atmosphere, and dimming the higher they went. My son was in a panic and crying, but we were able to hear far off sounds, like cannon fire, while watching these lights. You can see the lights and hear the booms in the video provided. The lights appear white in the video but they were red. The whole thing lasted about 15 minutes from the time we first spotted them from the freeway. Not sure how long they were there before we saw them. They were definately about 500 feet or so off the ground when we first saw them, and slowly rising up. There were several airplanes in our area during this event, and all of them seemed to be flying towards where we had seen the lights. After the lights disappeared we noticed 3 different helicopters circling downtown columbus, as well as a large search light from the center of downtown pointed in the direction we had seen the lights.
