My girlfriend and I use to go parking right in the middle of hwy. 82 just west of legion lake road in Winona, MS in the fall of 1982 because they had barricaded the old highway 82 off from legion lake road to the entrance of the old rebel beer joint, due to reworking the old hwy. 82 to complete the new 4 lane project. We would go around the barricades and park in the middle of the highway. One night while parking there on 10/15/82 we had been there at least 30-45 minutes and were both lying in the reclined passenger bucket seat in my 1976 Cordoba and saw what appeared to be a car coming up in behind us and was moving fast and I shouted to her it's going to run over us we braced for the impact but it stopped right behind us within a foot of the back bumper of the car. We were looking at it in the passenger rear view mirror and the whole inside of the car was illuminated from the very bright lights coming from it as we watched the craft started spreading out getting wider looking and just all of a sudden the lights cut off I immediately jumped in the driver’s seat cranked the car up and spun it around with the head lights on to see what it was because it was no way if it was some kind of vehicle to escape before we could see it but there was nothing there. My girlfriend then demanded we leave right then so we did. This was my favorite parking place, but she was so frightened by what happened she would never let me take her there again.
