I was on my back patio. I live a few hundred yards from a regional airport, so I know well what aircraft in flight look like. I was watching some aircraft circle the airport and I noticed what looked like two stars, but they were moving. At first I thought it might have been two commercial aircraft but they were much too close to each other and as I watched, they grew brighter and brighter until it was obvious it was not an aircraft, star, satellite... etc. The light was also very white and didn't have the twinkle that a star does as the light is refracted through the atmosphere. As they grew in brightness, they started to move off to the north, remaining equidistant from each other. The lights slowly faded back out and seemingly disappeared. I regularly see satellites pass overhead at night and the speed the objects were moving was similar to that slow, steady movement, however they did change trajectory slightly a few times until they faded away. They kept in sync in light and distance apart the entire time, which was about 5 minutes in all.
