Not real sure of exact time.but know it was mid to late winter in the Gulf of Tokin, during the WAR. we were on Patrol doing Rectangles, in Our Grid, at 2/3's Speed, about 22-23 Knots...about 30 MPH. when Sonar reported a contact Bearing off our Starboard side, under water about 200-300 feet. this UFO Circled our Ship (Lenard F. Mason, DD-852) Call sign Stud Poker, 3 and 1/2 Times.and then dissapeared at a very high speed ? they classified this as a Whale...Really? to the best of my knowledge at this time in History, there were no SUBS that could travel Under Water at that Speed ! Let alone Circle at Sumner Class Destroyer Doing about 30 MPH, I was a Radioman (RM3)Onboard at this Time, so I only Know what I Heard From Radio Central....Its hard at this time to remember all the Details...I do Believe it was Late JAN. or Early FED. at Dusk.
