While heading west/northwest on I-80, approximately 30 miles east of North Platt, NE, at 7:20 pm on October 5, 2015, we observed a brilliant stationary light 30 degrees above the horizon approximately 45 degrees left of our course on the interstate. The sun had just set when the object appeared. We observed that it was a spherical light in a stationary position for five minutes. It was far brighter than two airplanes that were flying overhead on an easterly path at almost the same time that we saw the object. There were no stars visible in the sky, as this was just at sunset and the sky was still very bright. The object was larger than any star or planet that we had seen in the night sky on the previous night. We pulled off the highway to observe the object, and retrieved our binoculars. While I was retrieving the glasses, my wife noted that the object changed shape, increasing in size, elongating and seeming to develop a veil-like shape, so that it resembled a filmy rectangle. The color was yellow-white. With the field glasses, I observed the object rise in a straight line at a rapid velocity, and change from a pulsating/rotating white/yellow to bright orange, as it decreased in size. While I was observing this, the object vanished. It didn't disappear into the distance - it simply vanished, like a switch had been flipped. The entire event lasted approximately 10 minutes. We waited for a couple of minutes in wonder and tried to assess what we had seen, and comparing the relative size to the planes we had seen that had flown on eastward. This object was much larger than those planes had been. We drove on, and saw nothing more...
