My boyfriend and I were driving south on hwy 395 on a dark night. At 6pm on November 7th, 2015 we were leaving the gas station north of Independence and I saw an odd light. I didn't know what to make of it, it was stationary, and I commented to my guy, is that a car on the mountains, a nonblinking antenna, or maybe a helicopter? Only then, as we were merging onto the highway, an extremely bright cone of light shone across our jeep. We pulled off on a crossroad as the light swept away. A large area of the sky to the west was illuminated. There was a green stripe of light through a large area of "cloud" haze in the sky. I could still make out the source of the light as it suddenly shot off to the west, growing dimmer, but at an unheard of speed. The sky behind the Sierra mountains stayed illuminated as though lit by a brilliant white light coming from behind. The haze began to dissipate, but an area to the south-west continued to glow green, no longer in a line, but forming an Aurora type swath of sky that lingered for 10 minutes or more. I kept watching the light and saw the bright cone of light shining down onto the wilderness of the Sierra mountains. Eventually the lights faded and the night is so dark again that I cannot even see the mountains now, they have barely any silhouette against the night sky.
