I'm not sure if anyone else viewed/reported the following. an hour after the sighting, i contacted the missoula police department and they had no reports. i wanted to contact the faa tower at the airport but couldn't locate a contact number. i'm a former police officer and was visiting with friends in missoula, mt saturday evening, (one is retired military and the other a retired u.S. marshall) . we were sitting on their outdoor porch in the 800 block of wyoming, when at around 10:40pm we noticed an unusual light in the night sky. it was a bright orange and appeared from the west northwest at about 40 degrees above the horizon. there were no other lights displayed as visible on ordinary aircraft and no sound was heard. the object's speed and altitude was similar to that of a commercial airliner at cruising altitude of around 30,000 feet. it arced in an ese direction and eventually disappeared to the southeast, maintaining about 40 degrees above the horizon. what was unusual was the object's illuminated bright orange color and no sound, although an aircraft at 30,000 feet may not be heard as well. at first i thought it was a meteorite entering the earths atmosphere. if you have any questions or would like more info, please feel free to contact me.
