On the night of sunday, march 29th, my wife and i were sitting on the deck of our lake house, which faces directly west allowing us to see sunsets every night. we like to sit out past the sunset and look at the stars. at about 9:45 pm that evening, i noticed 6 bright lights in the sky in vertical alignment. we see venus and various stars every night, but these were unlike anything we had ever seen. they were so unusual, i told my wife to stop responding to a text to look up to see them. the six lights were as bright as venus (much brighter than any other star), and they seemed to be in a perfect formation slightly northwest of our house. while in the sky beyond a ridge across the lake, they appeared to be separated by a large distance between each light. we see hundreds of planes traverse the sky each year, and these had no appearance of a plane as they never blinked and were much brighter than the planes we see. luckily, i had my phone with me and set it on the railing against a post and snapped a quick picture. my phone (google pixel 2 xl) has a nightshot feature, which is what i used. (it shot it as f/1.8, 1/1 4.46mm at iso2955 and saved it as a 12.2mp file at 3024 x 4032 resolution.) within moments after taking the picture, all of the lights had ascended directly upward and behind a cloud. by the time i took the picture (9:46 pm), one of the six lights was no longer in view. a few minutes later i thought i should snap another picture in the same direction for comparison purposes, so i've included both the unaltered original shot and the unaltered second shot. i have also included a third shot where i brought the original image into photoshop to mark the lights as well as a plane that was traveling across the sky in the general area of the unidentified lights.
