I was letting the cats out after feeding time when I noticed a bright steady red/orange light in the sky. I called my partners brother who was in the house at the time to come and see it so he was with me through out the sighting.It was moving very slowly SE to S at about 45 degrees, there was no noise as we tried to work out what it was. We had thought that it may be a chinese lantern. Then we heard the noise of an airplane and saw its lights flashing . The airplane was heading in the direction which looked like S to SE. At this point the bright light shot away at a right angle SSW, the light seamed to move very quickly and was soon just a pin prick of light and vanished.From turning to vanishing took about 2 seconds.My reactions/feelings during this time was What was it?How did it move so fast after being so slow? After wards we tried to make sense of it but came up with no conclusion.
