I was sitting out back on my porch at about 2am, Central standard time. We had just gotten back from a movie, and were outside enjoying the evening. I turned my gaze over the fence in my backyard and saw a gigantic boomerang shaped craft with yellow/orange/white running lights on the bottom. It flew within maybe a half a mile of me, maybe 2,000-3,000ft above. It was absolutely silent, and I mean silent. The night was completely dead, and even though this gigantic craft flew basically right over me, I didn't hear one sound. My girlfriend was with me at the time, and without turning away from it I asked her if she saw what I was seeing. She just responded by asking me what the hell it was. It had dim running lights on the bottom, it almost seemed as if it were shimmering or covered by a mist. It was almost indistinguishable from the night sky, if it were not for the running lights I would never have known it was right above me. It flew rather slowly over my house from east to west before disappearing beyond my sightline. It gave me a sense of awe because I am a big fan of aviation and I could not readily identify this craft based on my knowledge of current aerospace technologies. Truly was my first UFO sighting in this world. I tried looking for resources regarding boomerang shaped USAF craft or projects, but when I came up empty I decided to contact MUFON.
