My roommate and i, while trying to find 'white lick' hot spring, were stranded with a flat tire and no spare and hiked to a fire lookout we could see in the distance. we spent the night on the beds in the old glassed-in tower. (the fire tower employee was there as well.) the sky was an explosion of stars, and, unable to sleep, i lay on my side, staring at the twinkling dark. an object moved in my peripheral vision and i began to watch it start and stop and change direction in the sky. it seemed to pulse with blue and orange light. i watched it for a few minutes and then, from the next bed, my roommate asked, 'are you looking at what i'm looking at?'. we were both watching it! then the fire employee, although frightened, watched it, too. it was visible for approximately 15-20 minutes, then it moved north ( i think - i am directionally challenged) flying above the idaho wilderness. this has been my one and only sighting. we were all stunned at seeing it. the lookout girl was frightened but i felt lucky to have witnessed it. an aside: a few of my friends who manned fire towers throughout the years in the idaho wilderness had told stories of ir witnessed strange flying craft in the backcountry, sometimes hovering above waterways.
