On december 24, 2018, we were traveling westbound on route 3 in orange county virginia. we had just passed the intersection of rt3 & rt 20, when i noticed a flashing light above the treeline of the golf course within the gated community of lake of the woods. we were on our way to church, within the same community. at first i thought it was an airplane, however realized it was to low, and it was not moving. as i got closer, the light now appeared to be spherical in shape, and was rotating, stationary in multiple colors. i pulled over onto a sidestreet, did a uturn so i could get a better view. i pulled out my cellphone and started to record. i was able to zoom in fairly close and see some structure to the object, however shortly after, the object dissapeared. i had rolled my window down before it dissapeared and heard no sound. i thought it might be a drone as i own a phantom 3 and fly myself, however i can't account for the lights, and the object changes shape. also i'm not aware of anywhere of turning off the lights on a drone. even at the distance i was, i should have heard the drone. when i entered the community a look in the area where this object was done, with nothing found, or anyone observed possibly using a drone.
