Driving home to Bargoed this evening around 18.00 hrs, not far from Pengam traffic lights on the A469. I was driving with my wife and grandson in the rear seats and my 30 year old daughter in the front passenger seat. My daughter spotted a slightly elongated orange light in the sky across the valley from us in the direction of Gelligaer. The orange light was moving South to North at a fair, but not excessive, speed. Initially I thought maybe it might have been some king of 'Chinese lantern' but considering the weather at the time this seemed unlikely. The rain was torrential and persistent to the extent that roads had begun to flood. It occured to me that any paper lantern would have disintegrated in seconds in such weather. The light, which was very bright, eventually moved from our view as we were forced to stop at the traffic lights.
