The evening of July 7, 2007 8:51pm (daylight sighting). The weather was mostly clear except for a few clouds in the west. At the time I was walking along the waterfront snapping pictures of the sunset but my hopes of capturing the wispy red cirrus clouds failed to take shape. A storm was developing in the west and though the forecast said there was little chance for rain, nevertheless I decided to take precautions and leave before the storm got any worse. When I was about to cross underneath the VanHorne bridge I saw a bright flash in the corner of my eye. Above the trail side of the Sugarloaf mountain appeared a brilliant metallic object with a glossy surface like a well polished chrome bumper. The glare was so intense that I feared it might hurt my eyes. It was like looking at a welding torch. Then object started flickering from bright to dim and back again. What the heck is this? I watched this thing hover for nearly three minutes and it never moved. With my camera in hand, I turned it on and pointed it at the mountain, but the mysterious light suddenly disappeared. Only a tiny grain remained, barely visible and within a few seconds it was gone. In hindsight it wouldn't have mattered as my Canon S200 camera only came with a 2-megapixel sensor and a max focal length of 74mm, which meant it wasn't able to capture anything two kilometers away.
