I am a graduate student at Eastern New Mexico University, studying archaeology. My fiance, two friends and me were all outside talking around our fire pit, in our backyard from about 7pm to 11:30pm. Cannon Airforce Base is 17 miles North of us, and has recently upgraded to a special-ops base. Because of this, planes are once again doing maneuvers over Portales. We are used to seeing low-flying planes. On a normal night, here, we can watch the skies and spot between 5 - 8 satellites over the course of the night. On this particular night, satellite activity increased exponentially. We spoted around 20 satellites within an hour to an hour and a half. We saw two shooting stars, and watched high as well as low altitude planes flying by. There were four of us and what we saw we can each individually confirm. My chair was facing North/Northeast and I saw a brighter than usual light in the sky. I yelled for everyone to look, in the initial excitment thinking at first it was a shooting star. When everyone found the object in the sky, we were all mesmerized. It was not a shooting star. It kept it's speed(extremely fast) and its luminescence did not waiver. It was boomerang in shape and the color was a grey to green resembling the toy glow-in-the-dark stars that are put on kids ceilings. The object was moving North/Northwest, directly toward Cannon Airforce Base. This was not a plane. There were no lights on the object, just the eery glow green color. There was also no sound. The object was flying so fast, and so low that there should have been an audible sound for propulsion device. It also appeared to move a nearby cloud as it passed in the distance. The object moved in a straight line. It never slowed and seemed to maintain a direct course. Once it had passed a feeling of extreme nausia took over, and a period of nervous anxiety seemed to replace the feeling of the peaceful evening. All four of us saw the object and watched it fly over and continue flying out of sight.
