I was getting in my car parked on my driveway and i happened to glance to my south and saw an object that appeared to be at least 20 miles away but was massive. it looked like some kind of crazy spinning/rotating/tumbling amusement park ride. it was very clearly visible at first. it had many moving parts and what looked like wings or panels, and scoop like appendages that were moving randomly. the object seemed to be out over lake st. clair, near selfridge air national guard base and was moving slowly from east to west. the color was mostly white with random black areas like the exterior of the space shuttle or saturn rocket. while visible it seemed to fade in and out from solid to transparent until it just faded away. it also seemed to be making a faint simultaneous whooshing / mechanical sound. it was a warm day and just a slight haze in the air. i had to drive in that direction and watched for it to appear again, but it did not. however there was a strange thin stretched out cloud that almost looked like smoke where the object had been. i'm a retired vet and visit this base frequently and it was like no aircraft i have ever seen, in size nor shape. i also grew up a mile from detroit metro airport and worked for northwest airlines, and again, this was like nothing i had ever seen. i told my wife later that evening and a friend, but just let it go at that. yet, it i still cant understand what i saw and wonder if this info would be useful in someway.
