While sitting outside and looking south i noticed two lights beyond eugene airport at the point of the furthest horizon which would be about 60 miles away. it was at least 40 miles away when i first observed it. the object was flying nne and approximately directly towards my position. at first i thought it might be aircraft approaching eug, when it didn't approach the airport i was thinking perhaps two satellites on the same path. the lights never varied in their direction or apparent distance from each other. as it came close i got the impression it was one object and not two. as the object approached still a bit to the west and above the trees from my perspective i could tell it was definitely in our atmosphere and not in space. it was less than half the altitude of a passenger jet at full altitude. i estimate it was at about 15,000 feet in altitude. at it's closest proximity(at approximately 60 degrees sight line) i could then see there were scattered small or dim lights across it's bottom and, briefly, i could absolutely see a long, triangular shape! i would estimate the nose angle at about 25 degrees. i thought to myself, "this thing is massive in size!". i put up my fingers and from my perspective the distance between my fingers was 3 inches. using size/distance ratios this could easily make it the size of an aircraft carrier if my assumptions are in the ballpark. i moved away from the southside of the house ( i was in my hot tub) so that i could continue to watch it move to the north. we live on the south slope of a hill and i quickly lost sight of the object. i told my wife and called my brother with the news. the entire time elapse i estimate to be about 3 minutes and i watched it travel perhaps 50 miles.
