Some of my family got together and had a fire out by the beach at my parent's house last night. the sky was very crisp and clear, and my son began to point out constellations. he spotted a satellite that was heading north, near ursa major, and then something moving to the east, but slower than the satellite. from our perspective, 60 degrees above the horizon, facing north. as he watched the object move to the east, another appeared from the northwest and appeared to be following the first. that is when he said "look dad, there's one following that one". my brother and i turned and started to locate them when my son spotted a third one on the same path. my sister and her friend then began to watch as we counted the seconds between appearances. our parents did not see the lights, but witnessed our excitement as we watched over 30 lights appear from the vicinity of the constellation cepheus, 20 seconds apart and move across the sky like a train. the distance between lights was about 10 inches at arms length. we were able to see five to seven at a time before they moved out of sight to the east. then after about 10 minutes they stopped.
